Advanced Improvisational Practice – 2-Hour Online Workshop (Google Meet)
Sunday, January 25th
PST: 11:00-13:00
EST: 14:00–16:00
CET: 20:00–22:00
This intensive two-hour online workshop is designed for experienced improvisers seeking to deepen their artistic clarity, temporal awareness, and decision-making in real time. Moving beyond vocabulary and surface-level devices, the session focuses on the process of improvisation—how sound choices emerge, how form reveals itself, and how intention, listening, and time interact moment by moment.
Through guided exercises, directed listening, short performance explorations, and discussion, participants will investigate advanced concepts such as internal time, structural awareness, motivic development, harmonic implication, and the balance between intuition and conscious control. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating independence from external reference points while strengthening responsiveness to the musical environment.
The workshop is highly interactive and adaptable to a range of instruments and musical languages. Participants are encouraged to bring their instrument and a readiness to engage deeply with sound, space, and form.
Topics may include:
Internalizing time and pulse without reliance on external markers
Advanced approaches to form, continuity, and interruption
Motivic logic and long-range development
Harmonic implication and tonal ambiguity
Listening as an active, compositional force
Risk, restraint, and clarity in real-time creation
Open to advanced students, professionals, and educators. All sessions take place live via Google Meet.
